Not Above You”

Guidance for “Your Individual Concerns” Section
Why this matters:
This is your space to explain, in your own words, what’s happening and why you are unhappy with the way you’ve been treated. Adding your personal concerns makes your letter unique, strengthens your case, and prevents the council or company from dismissing it as a “template.”
What to include:
• What the issue is (e.g. a bill, demand, or enforcement notice).
• How it is affecting you personally (financially, emotionally, practically).
• Any errors, unfair treatment, or mistakes you believe have been made.
• Anything important you want them to understand about your situation.
How to write it:
• Use plain, everyday language — don’t worry about being “legal.”
• Be as clear and specific as you can, but don’t stress about spelling or grammar.
• A few sentences are enough, but feel free to write more if you wish.
Examples:
• “The bill is not affordable for me as a single parent and I am struggling to meet basic household costs.”
• “The enforcement agent visited while I was at work and frightened my children, which I feel is unacceptable.”
• “I believe my bill is incorrect as the meter reading does not match my usage.”
Tip:
Imagine you are talking to a friend who asked: “What’s going on?” Write down the answer in that way. We will do the rest to make sure it is presented properly.
